There is a lot of skimboarding spots worldwide but only some spots are worth visiting. You can soon add your favourite spots to our index. When you are adding a skim spot you also have to find the location on Google Map. Then other skimboarders till wind just your skim spot.
The extreme width and flatness of the skimboard combined with the momentum of the board hitting the water flat will create a "vacuum-like" effect that will cause the board to "skim". When a skimboard is moving across a thin layer of water high sppeds it creates a vacuum zone between the water and the board allowing rider to get long rides along the shoreline. The vacuum-effect can only work when there is a forward momentum while the skimboard is being ridden. On your first try, the board will have a tendency to slide in all directions. Even though sliding in multiple directions is done by some of the world's best skimmers, it is crucial to learn to go straight first. To avoid sliding out in multiple directions, throw the board straight (pointed end forward), run straight, jump on and center yourself on the skimboard.
Skimboarding is a relatively inexpensive sport. All you need to get started is surfboard wax for the top slide of the skimboard and also a pair of surf trunks. Sunscreen is also recommended.
